Unit Planning

This week my focus has been on unit planning for my upcoming trip to Kuwait. I will be teaching Grade 8 Social Studies, units on Exploration, Slavery and Revolutions. I couldn't be more nervous and excited to teach social studies for the second time! In my unit planning, I decided I would switch it up and use Prezi as opposed to the usual PowerPoint. As of right now, I have about 2 weeks of presentations done and I am a HUGE fan of Prezi! It's a great way to use creativity and interaction in the classroom. I'm using Prezi as a guide to the unit. The template I am using is a colorful world map, our presentation takes us "all over the world". I find Prezi to be much more exciting and engaging than PowerPoint, also much easier to use. Without much effort, I am plugging in information and assignments into a fantastic template. The movement in the presentation is a great way to get student's attention. I can't wait to finish the unit and see what the final product looks like!

  1. I love using Prezi and applaud you for trying it out. Visually it looks a lot better then a powerpoint but functionally it isn't quite on the same level.

One tip I have for you - the best part of Prezi is the easy integration of videos and then also how it operates. Don't try to over do it with actual text because you will go made trying to keep them all of them same and it takes a lot of time.

    Good luck!

  2. Prezi is a really good app but is difficult to operate sometimes or if students were to share their presentation. This app doesn't like to work without internet unless you download the software for your desktop.

I do like the transition from slide to slide in Prezi and you can capture that movement in the background. I do like Prezi, I just had difficult time in my first placement with a few students handing in their Prezi and getting it to work.

  3. I also really like Prezi, and think it is a great resource that adds more engagement for presentations and providing information to students! I think that the students will really enjoy having the information shared via the Prezi!

  4. Good for you for trying something new! I haven't tried Prezi yet but I've been meaning to - it looks so professional and it is definitely more engaging than a Powerpoint.
